New Delhi: Amit Shah, Union Minister for Home Affairs, has directed that the vigil on the international borders be intensified, especially along the unfenced area, to ensure that no cross-border movement takes place.
Shah reviewed border-guarding arrangements at the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders with BSF Command and Sector Headquarters through video-conferencing.
The Home Minister asked the BSF officials to ensure that farmers in the border areas are educated about COVID-19 and the measures to be undertaken to prevent its spread in these areas.
He also instructed the BSF, in coordination with the District administrations, to make sure that people do not venture across the border fence inadvertently.
The Home Minister praised the work done by BSF units amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. During the lockdown, BSF have focused their energy towards awareness campaigns, as per guidelines of Ministry of Health, sanitization efforts in villages, providing masks and soaps for hand wash, providing ration, potable water and medical facilities to the needy, including remote villages, migratory labourers, daily wage earners and stranded truck drivers in border areas.
