Cuttack: In the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak, the Orissa High Court on Monday directed the Odisha government to engage senior and experienced doctors in the government and private hospitals.
A division bench of the court comprising Acting Chief Justice Kumari Sanju Panda and Justice Biswanath Rath issued the directive in response to a public interest litigation (PIL).
The bench directed the Health secretary and the Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) to take immediate steps to provide necessary equipment for the safety of the doctors engaged in treating the COVID-19 patients. It also asked them not to grant leave to any doctor except in urgent circumstances.
Besides, the bench also directed the Odisha Police not to detain any patient and their relatives on the way to the hospitals during the lockdown period.
