COVID-19: India’s Case Tally Crosses 58 Lakh; Recovery Rate Rises To 81.74%

New Delhi: With an overnight surge of 86,052 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally went past the 58-lakh mark to stand at 58,18,570 on Friday.

Alos, 1,141 people across the country succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday. The fresh deaths took the toll to 92,290.

The country has been reporting more than 1,000 daily deaths for over a fortnight now. India’s COVID-19 fatality rate, however, has dropped to 1.59 per cent.

About 81.74 per cent (47,56,164) people have recovered from the infection so far with 81,177 being discharged on Thursday. Another 16.67 per cent (9,70,116) are still under treatment.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,89,28,440 samples have been tested for COVID-19, which includes 14,92,409 on Thursday.
