New Delhi: With an overnight surge of 85,362 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally went past the 59-lakh mark to stand at 59,03,933 on Saturday.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and it went past 50 lakh on September 16.
Also, 1,089 people across the country succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. The fresh deaths took the toll to 93,379.
The country has been reporting more than 1,000 daily deaths for over a month now. India’s COVID-19 fatality rate, however, has dropped to 1.58 per cent.
Besides, 82.14 per cent (48,49,585) people have recovered from the infection so far with 93,420 being discharged on Friday. Another 16.28 per cent (9,60,969) are still under treatment.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,02,69,975 samples have been tested for COVID-19, which includes 13,41,535 on Friday.
