Bhubaneswar: Amid the general sense of gloom due to the coronavirus outbreak and the consequent countrywide lockdown, Bhubaneswar-based comedians are gearing up to inject a dose of laughter through live shows on various social media platforms.
In a media interview, comedians Priyaranjan Sahoo, Rohit Swain and Alokesh Sinha shared their plans of going live with their shows on social media.
Priyaranjan along with his team will be streaming some live shows of 10 to 12 minutes on social media.
The stand-up comedian is also planning to start a podcast with telephonic interviews of celebrities to keep his fans entertained.
Speaking about his programmes, Priyaranjan said, “Earlier, I had started a satirical show on current affairs in collaboration with actor Dipanwit Dashmohapatra on a social media channel which was well received. Besides, I and Dipanwit sensitised people through a mini show on the spread of coronavirus which was viewed by approximately 50k netizens.”
Humorist Satyabrat Mohapatra will be interacting with the audience through live shows on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
“COVID-19 outbreak has adversely affected all forms of entertainment. Performers dealing with live audience are worst-hit as the auditoriums have been shut with restrictions on public gathering. Most of us are sitting at home. Therefore, we have no choice but to go ‘live’ on our social media accounts. At the moment, I am planning to interact with the audience through live shows on Instagram and Facebook,” informed Satyabrat.
Comedian Rohit Swain recently did an online corporate show from his home. The show was 30-minute-long and had nearly 70 participants.
Talking about the lockdown, Rohit said, “This is definitely a tough time for most of the artistes who used to entertain audience through live performances. However, we have to adapt to the new situation and use the technology to entertain our viewers.”
Alokesh Sinha is planning to start a video chat with fellow comedians and stream it on social media platforms.
He said, “We need to be innovative and offer good contents to the viewers from the comfort of our homes through live streaming. I am planning to start a video chat with fellow comedians and release it in social media.”
