Cuttack: To ensure that the commoners are not deprived of the day-to-day essential commodities during the lockdown in the state, Chhatra Bazaar and Malgodown here have agreed to remain open round-the-clock.
Informing about the same, an official said, “The traders and vegetables have agreed to open their shops for 24 hours in three shifts. The district administration has taken the decision to ensure availability of sufficient essential commodities for the public.”
As soon as the news about the wholesale markets remaining open spread across the state, people rushed to the market to buy the daily necessities.
In view of the coronavirus pandemic, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced a weeklong lockdown in five districts and eight towns starting March 22. The lockdown has been imposed in districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kendrapara and Angul and towns of Puri, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Jajpur road and Jajpur town, Bhadrak.
