Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration rescued 11 migrant labourers, who were returning to their hometown in Kolkata on foot.
On seeing the plight of the migrant labourers, Chhatrapur Sub-Collector Priya Ranjan Prusty, Community Development Officer Ambika Prasad Das and Tehsildar Nilamadhab Bhoi rescued them and sent them to an isolation centre at Kaliabali.
According to reports, the labourers were working at a Government guest house in Gopalpur.
Their situation turned bad when their employer stopped supplying them food and they too didn’t have enough money to arrange meals for themselves. So, they decided to walk back to their native in West Bengal’s Kolkata.
However, they were stopped by the district administration at Chammakhandi police limits on NH-16.
Amidst the lockdown, the Odisha Government is providing food to 70,000 guest workers through 2012 camps set up across the state.
