Bhadrak: With public transportation grinding to a halt during the COVID-19 lockdown, 17 migrant labourers working in West Bengal have cycled back to their village in Odisha.
The migrant workers are residents of Basudevpur village in Bhadrak district. According to reports, the workers started cycling back home from West Bengal on Friday and reached their village on Saturday.
After their arrival, the state government conducted medical tests on them and gave them a healthy meal.
The 21-day countrywide lockdown to check the spread of coronavirus has rendered poor migrant labourers jobless and homeless.
Adding to their woes, there is no means of transport to bring them back to their native places. During this crisis, some workers are taking the help of good vehicles to ferry them to their villages while some are walking all the way to their villages in the sultry heat.
