COVID-19 Lockdown: Validity Of Vehicle Documents Extended Till June 30

Bhubaneswar: To ensure hassle-free transportation of cargo amid COVID-19 lockdown, the Centre has decided to extend the validity of vehicle documents till June 30.

In an advisory to all states and Union territories, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has asked enforcement authorities to treat fitness, permit (all types), driving licence, registration or any other related documents that expired since February 1 as valid till June 30.

“The non-use clause facility for transport vehicles for suspension of tax liability, which is operational in a number of states and the facility is being provided by NIC on the VAHAN platform online, may be adopted by other states to give relief to the commercial vehicles like taxi and bus, which are non-operational under the current circumstances,” said Director, Motor Vehicle License (MVL) in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Dr Piyush Jain.

The decision was taken to facilitate the citizens facing difficulties in renewing the validity of various documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules due to nationwide lockdown and closure of government transport offices, he added.
