Phagwara: As the COVID-19 pandemic rages across the world, researchers are getting more and more time and data to devise new strategies to fight the pandemic.
A team from Lovely Professional University in Punjab has developed a device called ‘Kawach’ to help ensure social distancing during lockdown period.
‘Kawach’, which can be worn as a pendant, vibrates and glows whenever someone breaches the user’s safe zone of 1 metre.
The device is also equipped with a reminder that beeps every 30 minutes to remind the user to wash his or her hands, and also a temperature sensor that alerts them via an SMS in case their body temperature crosses the prescribed limit.
The research team of B Tech student Prabin Kumar Das and his professors in the Electronics Communication and Engineering department has tested Kawach among the staff at the university. They have filed a patent for the device and are looking for manufacturing partners for its commercialisation.
The device will be available for Rs 1,000 each.
