Berhampur: Police have imposed a total penalty of over Rs 1.5 lakh on the people for not wearing masks while coming out of their houses in Ganjam district in two days.
District SP Brijesh Kumar Ray said the police imposed the fine as the people violated the guidelines of COVID-19 which among other things prescribed that one must wear face mask while coming out of the house.
The police launched a drive to enforce the guidelines on July 29 and 30 and imposed penalty amounting to Rs 1,51,500 on the violators, the SP said. Besides, a total fine of Rs 1000 was imposed for violating night curfew during the period, he added.
Meanwhile, police have arrested 4 persons in Excise cases and seized 32.2 litre of liquor. Besides, 7 persons were arrested in gambling cases and Rs 7750 seized from their possession.
