Washington: US President Donald Trump has proclaimed said his country has “passed the peak” of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
“While we must remain vigilant, it is clear that our aggressive strategy is working,” the President said during a White House briefing on Wednesday. “The battle continues, but the data suggests that nationwide we have passed the peak on new cases.”
The global pandemic has infected 5.6 million people and killed 28-and-a-half thousand people in the US thus far.
Trump observed that new cases in New York, the biggest hotspot, are “declining”, while the curve is flattening in Denver and Detroit. “Cities including Baltimore and Philadelphia are showing great signs of success.”
