COVID-19 Patients May Take Over A Month To Get Fully Cured; Know The Post-Recovery Symptoms

New Delhi: Odisha has so far seen 70.66 per cent COVID-19 patients recovering from the infection. The total recovered cases now stand 10,877 while the state has so far reported 15392 positive cases.

However, the road to recovery for those infected by this deadly virus is reportedly “long and arduous” and it can take four to six weeks for a patient to return to normalcy.

According to experts, the infection takes a toll on the immune system and those who have recovered continue to complain of extreme fatigue, breathlessness and tiredness. Apart from physical, neurological symptoms are being witnessed in patients after recovery.

“An extreme level of fatigue and tiredness is the most common complaints among the recovered patients. The second most common complaint is not being able to take a full breath,” director medicine at Max Healthcare Dr Sandeep Buddhiraja was quoted as saying by the India Today.

Senior consultant and paediatric intensivist at Sir Gangaram Hospital Dr Dhiren Gupta told the news magazine that some patients become depressed. “Previously, it was known that the infection was only affecting the lung. But now, we know that it affects other organs of the body such as the heart, the brain, intestine and kidney,” he said.

Dr Gupta said that the disease was affecting the inner lining of the blood vessels, causing muscle and body ache. “These patients are developing strokes and myocardial infarction or mild form of heart attacks. Thrombosis or formation of a blood clot is also being witnessed in patients of Covid-19. Such patients will require thrombotic therapy. Chronic or severe headaches are being reported by the patients,” he said.

These symptoms, however, are unusual and being seen in only rare cases, the report further said.

“It is important to take precautions to prevent food and waterborne and mosquitoes related diseases,” head of medicine at AIIMS and member of the clinical task force for Covid-19 in India Dr Naveet Wig was quoted by the magazine.
