Medical Student Attending COVID-19 Patients Found Dead In Chennai Hostel

Chennai: A 22-year old medical student, who was attending to COVID-19 patients at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital here, was found dead in her hostel room on Friday.

According to reports, the deceased identified as R Prathiba, a native of Perambur, was attending to COVID-19 patients since April 16 and was under tremendous stress.

Prathiba spoke to her parents on Thursday night over WhatsApp and told them that she was going through mental trauma.

When she didn’t come out of her room on Friday morning, her hostel mates raised an alarm.

Soon, the hostel authorities informed the police, who broke open the door of her room only to find her lying dead on the bed.

As there were no external injury marks on her body, police suspects that it could be a case a suicide.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.

On learning about the incident, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh and senior police officers rushed to the spot.
