‘COVID-19 Second Wave In Odisha Likely To Peak By May 1st Week’
Bhubaneswar: The COVID positive cases in Odisha are expected to peak by the first week of May. Alerting about the surge, Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty on Wednesday maintained that the state government is ready to tackle the situation.
“Going by the analysis conducted by different agencies, the second wave of COVID-19 in Odisha is most likely to peak either in the last week of April or in the first week of May,” the DMET Director told media persons here.
Stating that the state government is ready to tackle the COVID situation, he said there will be no dearth of medical oxygen for the treatment of patients.
“Compared to the requirement of oxygen in the state during the peak period last year, the state has enough stock of oxygen cylinders this year as a number of government and private enterprises in the state are now producing and supply more medical oxygen,” Mohanty said.
On the availability of health care in COVID hospitals in the state, he said out of 71 hospitals, 31 have been operationalised where only 26 per cent of beds, 14.18 per cent of ICU and 10 per cent of ventilators are in use.
