COVID-19 Shutdown: 25 Arrested In Cuttack For Pelting Stones At Police

Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested 25 persons for the attack on policemen at Kesharpur here during the shutdown period.

Informing this, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said that the police had detained 35 persons of which 25 have been arrested by Daragha Bazar Police on the basis of the CCTV footage. All the arrested will be forwarded to the court on Monday, he added.

The incident had taken place in the morning when a PCR van with a team of police led by the IIC of Mangalabag police station was patrolling the area. The team found some youths standing near a masjid in gross violation of the shutdown order.

When police asked the youths to remain inside their houses, they suddenly pelted them with stones. The IIC and other policemen were injured in the incident.

Following information, one platoon of police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathi-charge. Police later detained 35 persons.

The Cuttack DCP, who arrived at the spot with an additional force, later told the media that police will book the hooligans for attacking the on-duty policemen.
