Bhubaneswar: Barring Ganjam, the other six districts in south Odisha have been reporting a late surge in COVID-19 cases for the past one month.
What is more alarming is that along with the positive cases, the fatality rate is also climbing up.
The number of positive cases in Ganjam, Nabarangpur and Gajapati districts gained momentum from June 29, June 27 and June 21, respectively, and the remaining four districts of Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Koraput from July 20, July 30, July 21 and July 12, respectively.
Till August 20, the total number of positive cases in these seven southern Odisha districts was 26,874 which is 38% of the total positive cases in Odisha (70,020).
These seven districts have a total of 5,986 active cases which is 26% of the total active cases in the state (22,651).
In terms of fatalities, a total of 212 deaths were reported from these districts during the period which is 56% of the total toll in the state (380).
On the other hand, the number of recoveries stood at 20,662 which is 44% of the total recoveries in the state (46,936).
