New Delhi: With the single-day surge of 92,605 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally went past 54-lakh mark to stand at 54,00,620 on Sunday.
About 1,133 more patients succumbed to infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed.
A total of 86,752 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 so far with the country reporting more than 1,000 deaths daily in a row for over a fortnight. India’s case fatality rate has, however, dropped to 1.61 per cent.
About 79.68 per cent (43,03,043) people have recovered from the infection so far with 94,612 being discharged on Saturday. Another 18.72 per cent (10,10,824) are still under treatment.
India also scaled yet another peak with over 12 lakh samples being tested in the past 24 hours, informed the ministry.
“While the number of daily tests has increased as an integral part of CHASE THE VIRUS strategy, States have been advised that all symptomatic negatives of Rapid Antigen Tests are mandatorily subjected to RT-PCR,” said the ministry.
