Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 tally in the Odisha capital breached 3000-mark and touched 3068 on Monday with 89 new cases being detected in the last 24 hours.
This two-digit number must have come as a relief for the city denizens as Bhubaneswar has been reporting cases in three digits for past 11 days with a record 248 on July 24.
Besides, 107 more patients have recovered from the infection since Sunday.
Of the 89 new cases, 65 infected are among those in quarantine. The remaining 24 are local contact cases.
Among the quarantine cases, 17 have been reported from Aiginia, seven from Reserve Police Colony, five from Gautam Nagar and four from Badagada’s Nua Sahi.
Barring an employee of a government hospital, the others have contracted the infection from earlier positive patients.
Among the local contact cases, two are from Radha Krushna Basti near Capital Hospital and as many from Ganganagar.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation further informed that nine employees of a private hospital have been cured. Some more recoveries have been reported from the city slums – Salia Sahi, Akhandalamani Basti, Trinatha Basti, Ganapati Nagar Basti, Muslim Basti, among others.
With 18 deaths and 1798 recoveries, Bhubaneswar now has 1250 active cases.
