Berhampur: The District and Sessions Court, Berhampur has been closed due to prevailing COVID-19 situation till October 12.
The District and Sessions Judge declared the closure after the Ganjam Bar Association (GBA) took a unanimous resolution in this regard and requested the District and Sessions Judge to take a decision.
Secretary of the bar association Sudhansu Sekhar Panda said the advocates would abstain from the court work from September 23 to October 9 and the GBA has unanimously taken the resolution. The Bar has also requested the District and Sessions Judge, Berhampur to cooperate and intimate all the subordinate courts not to pass any adverse orders during the period.
The entire court premises is apparently under the threat of COVID-19 contamination. Two judges including the Vigilance Judge and ADJ III have tested positive for the disease. Apart from them, the steno of the Vigilance Court and orderly have been afflicted.
Earlier, some judges of the District and Sessions Court and 15 employees had tested positive. More than 20 advocates of the GBA have already tested positive, while 4 of them have succumbed to COVID-19, said Panda.
