New Delhi: With the highest single-day surge of 96,424 COVID-19 positive cases, India’s affected tally went past the 52-lakh mark to reach 52,14,677 on Friday.
About 1,174 people have succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours in India, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
A total of 84,372 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 so far with the country reporting more than 1,000 daily deaths in a row for over a fortnight. India’s case fatality rate due to COVID-19 has, however, dropped to 1.62 per cent.
Presently, the deaths per million population in India is 60 while the world average remains 121.
About 78.86 per cent (41,12,551) people have recovered from the infection so far with 87,472 being discharged on Thursday. Another 19.52 per cent (10,17,754) are still under treatment.
The number of COVID-19 testing labs has increased to 1764 including 704 private labs and 898 real-time RT PCR based testing labs including 423 private labs. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,15,72,343 samples have been tested for COVID-19, which includes Thursday’s 10,06,615.
