Puri: With the number of daily COVID-19 cases increasing, the district administration has decided to close the shops after 6 pm from Friday.
The decision was taken after a discussion with some traders’ associations, said collector Samarth Verma. As per the decision, the shops are allowed to remain open from 5 am to 6 pm.
The Wholesale Sangha, Puri distributor, Traders’ Association and Vegetable Business Association had submitted the proposal to the district administration to close the shops after 2 pm upto May 15.
But some traders’ bodies did not agree with the proposal and it was that the markets can carry on the business till 6 pm. However, the food stalls can give parcels upto 9 pm.
Notably, the district reported 514 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.
