COVID Crisis: Trump Raises A Wall On Immigration To US

US President Donald Trump has said he will temporarily suspend immigration into the country, which at present has the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths in the world.

“In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States,” Trump tweeted on Monday night.

Earlier, the US President had imposed travel restrictions to and from China, Europe, Canada and Mexico to stop the virus from spreading.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has suspended routine services, but is attending to emergencies.

Trump, who has been wanting to bring some manufacturing back to the country, believes the pandemic is a good reason to do so.

COVID-19 has already killed more than 42,000 people in the United States.

There is increasing pressure from communities and states to reopen the dying economy. Many US Governors have asked for tests to be ramped up, but Trump has insisted that the tests done are adequate.
