Dehradun: Nineteen Kumbh Mela visitors who had tested COVID positive fled the hospital where they were being treated.
All 19 were from Rajasthan and were recovering from the infection at a facility in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district.
On Sunday, there was panic among the police and health officials after it came to light that they have fled from the COVID centre.
“We were told that they had been to the Kumbh,” a state Health department official told The Times of India.
An FIR has been registered against those who have fled from the COVID hospital, and an investigation is on. The district administration has informed the Rajasthan government about the matter.
This year’s Kumbh Mela – a popular religious event which is rotated among Haridwar, Nashik, Ujjain and Prayagraj – has been at the centre of controversy as many are of the opinion that it could be a super-spreader amid the raging second wave of COVID-19.
