Bhubaneswar: Amidst the unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases, as many as 17 districts in Odisha were tagged in the red zone category (with more than 1000 active cases).
According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, the active cases in Odisha mounted to 61,698 on Friday. Of these, 84 per cent (52,134) cases are in 17 districts.
Of the districts tagged as red zone, Khurda has the highest of 11,017 active cases followed by Sundargarh (6,151), Cuttack (4,008), Kalahandi (3,305), Jharsuguda (3,000), Bargarh (2,881), Nuapada (2,664), Nabarangpur (2,629), Puri (2,597), Balangir (2,461), Sambalpur (2,541), Jajpur (1,888), Mayurbhanj (1,677), Angul (1,671), Ganjam (1,346), Keonjhar (1,182) and Balasore (1,116).
A zone is categorized as red if districts with the highest caseload contribute to more than 80 per cent of coronavirus cases for each state in the country or districts with a doubling rate of less than four days.
