COVID Update: Active Cases Drop Below 8K In Odisha; 105 More Children Infected
Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a further fall in daily COVID caseload on Saturday as 779 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
The state had seen 816 fresh infections the previous day after a spike of 887 on Thursday (August 26) from 625 a day earlier (August 25). The caseload has remained below 1000 since August 20.
According to the I & PR department, 454 of the new infections are from quarantine and 325 local contacts. These include 105 in the age group of 0-18 years, which is 13 per cent of the new cases.
The state has seen 1,602 children and adolescents contracting the virus since August 15, when the government started mapping the paediatric population in the state, while 35 have died due to the deadly disease during this period.
While the infection rate in the 0-18 age group has been hovering around 13 per cent for the past two days after touching 15 per cent on August 26, Odisha reported a test positivity rate of 1.09 per cent on Saturday (August 28) with these new cases being detected from 71,137 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
Khurda reported the highest 259 new cases while 13 other districts, including Cuttack (84) and Balasore (59), saw positive cases in two digits. No new cases have been reported from Nabarangpur.

With this, Odisha now has 7996 active cases. Khurda district continues to be in the red zone with 3094 active cases.
