COVID Update: Odisha Reports Marginal Rise In Daily Caseload, High Infection Rate Among Kids
Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a marginal rise in daily COVID caseload on Sunday as 849 more people, including 119 in the age group of 0-18 years, were found infected in the last 24 hours.
The state had seen 779 and 816 positive cases on Saturday (August 28) and Friday (August 27) respectively, after a spike of 887 on Thursday (August 26) from 625 a day earlier (August 25). The caseload has remained below 1000 since August 20.
According to the I & PR department, 491 of the new infections are from quarantine and 358 local contacts. Khurda reported the highest of 361 followed by Cuttack at 98.
With these cases being detected from 68,667 samples, the test positivity rate also rose to 1.23 per cent from 1 per cent, the lowest during the second wave, on Saturday when 71,137 swabs were tested.
Similarly, the infection rate in the 0-18 age group stood at 14 per cent, a rise from 13.4 per cent the previous day.
The state has seen 1,721 children and adolescents contracting the virus since August 15, when the government started mapping the paediatric population in the state, while 36 have died due to the deadly disease during this period.
