New Delhi: Sputnik Light, Russia’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine, was on Sunday granted emergency use approval in India by Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
Developed by Russia’s Gamaleya Center, Sputnik Light is built on a human adenovirus vector platform. It’s being manufactured in India by the Hetero Biopharma Limited and received approval for export from Indian government last October.
Now, it could be used in India’s vaccination programme.
This is the ninth vaccine to have received emergency use approval for India’s adult population, though not all of them have been used so far.
Apart from Covishield and Covaxin, India has administered around 12 lakh doses of Sputnik V vaccine.
