Crime Against Wildlife: Leopard Found Dead In Hunter’s Net In Odisha’s Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal: In another crime against wildlife, decomposed body of a leopard has been found under suspicious condition in a forest in the district.
According to sources in Dhenkanal Forest department, some locals spotted the dead leopard in a forest under Hindol range and informed the officials.
The Forest officials went to the spot and found the body of leopard entangled in a hunter’s net. The wild animal is suspected to have died without food 4 days back, according to preliminary post-mortem report.
The Forest officials have started investigation to trace the hunters who had spread the net in the forest.
In a related incident, the Forest officials have seized the hide of a Royal Bengal tiger from possession of Butu Mahakud in Rebanapalaspal village under Deogaon forest range of Anandpur wildlife division in Keonjhar district.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Ghanashyam Mahant revealed this to the media following seizure of the hide during raids on Mahakud’s house on Friday.
