Crime Branch Seeks Addl Remand Of Accused In Sanjay Dasburma Aide’s Murder Case
Puri: The Crime Branch (CB) has sought 5-day additional remand of one of the accused in the sensational murder of Chitta Ranjan Palei, a close aide of BJD leader and deputy chairman of State Planning Board Sanjay Dasburma.
The two accused, Jagannath Sarangi alias Jaga and Ashok Upadhyay, were produced in a local court here (Gram Nyalyalaya) after medical examination on Monday as their 2-day remand period came to an end. Though the court sent them to judicial custody, the CB has appealed for Upadhyay’s custody for further questioning.
“The CB has prayed the court for the extension of Ashok Upadhyaya’s custody for five more days. The decision regarding this will be taken by the court later in the day,” said government advocate Bhagaban Padihary.
According to sources, the investigating team has found vital clues with regards to the mysterious death of 22-year-old Chitta. It is also likely to unlock his phone for more information.
Notably, Chitta went missing on December 11 night and his body was recovered from Nuanai two days later.
Sarangi and Upadhyay were arrested on December 24 on the basis of lie-detection test of five suspects, scientific, forensic and post-mortem reports and eyewitness accounts and booked under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Crime Branch DSP Sisir Kumar Mishra had earlier hinted at the involvement of more persons in the case.
