Bhubaneswar: Crime control and elections will remain a big challenge for Commissionerate Police in 2019, said Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty on Tuesday.
“The year 2018 has given us some good experience. In this year, we were able to successfully monitor some major international sporting events like the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup and the Men’s Hockey World League at Kalinga Stadium and earned praise for our efforts. Our efforts will be to act in the way that people want from us. If people are willing to help us and seek help from us, we will have to change our attitude accordingly,” Mohanty told the media.
The Police Commissioner also said that the ensuing Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in 2019 will be a big challenge for Commissionerate Police. “Since Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha, several political parties will hold rallies and demonstrations. Several VIPs and VVIPs will also visit the state capital and special security arrangements will be made for them. We will keep ourselves prepared to meet these two challenges,” he added.
Admitting that there is a rise in the drugs and illegal arms trade in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Mohanty said since there have been several crimes like snatching, robbery and theft related to drug peddling. The supply chain of this racket is beyond the twin cities. The Commissionerate Police will have to go to the root of this chain to stop this illegal trade.
