If you thought movies named ‘Mehandi Ban Gayi Khoon’ and ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ were cringe-worthy, hold on, we have a long list for you.
Every once in a while, movies are released that leave a lasting impression — terrific storyline, great acting and superb music. However, there are also movies with weird and cheesy names, which make you wonder why? Some of these Bollywood movie titles make you cringe, while some names are funnier than the movie itself. Let us take a look at some weird movie names and their content:
Kab tak chup rahungi
Indeed, one needs to speak up against domestic violence, rape, gender bias, unequal pay and other injustices against women. This 1988 film also showed how the female lead wasn’t respected by her husband.
Bandook dahej ke seene par
The movie, featuring Shashi Kapoor among others, dealt with with dowry — not for the first time in Bollywood. However, a little creativity wouldn’t have hurt anyone.
Ghar mein ho saali, toh pura saal Diwali
This one takes the cake, really sets you thinking how someone can come up with such a title!
Sone ka dil, lohe ke haath
Giving a poetic touch to movie titles seemed to be a trend in Bollywood, especially in 1978 when ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, ‘Saajan Bina Suhagan’, ‘Kasme Vaade’, ‘Khoon Ka Badla Khoon’ were released. The one we are discussing, starring Rajendra Kumar, failed to impress much.
Salim langde pe mat ro
The 1989 movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 1989. Many liked the film but felt the title could have been different. Ashutosh Gowariker had a role to play, but showed later that he was much better as a director.
Yeh vo manzil toh nahi
Surely a name to be used the next time you play charades, no one would be able to guess it. The Sudhir Mishra film starred biggies like Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapoor. It has an impressive IMDb rating of 7.8.
Allah meharban toh gadha pahelwan
A simple advice to the makers if they plan another venture — if you can’t find good names, seek help from literature.
Andheri raat mein diya tere haath mein
Another mind-boggling weird title, which beggars logic.
Gyara hazar ladkiya
There are plenty of movies with names that relate to female characters. Movies like Aurat Teri Yehi Kahani (1954), Main Sundar Hoon (1971), Haseena Haathi Waali (1996), Aiyyya (2012) raise serious questions. Bollywood has often marginalized and exploited female sexuality for commercialization of movies?
Sasti dulhan mahenga dulha
Another title with no sense and sensibility, which belittles women.
Murde ki jaan khatre mein
True, in the times of coronavirus!
Tu bal bramhachari, main hoon kanya kunwari
*Facepalm*
Ek se mera kya hoga
True, a dozen COVID-19 vaccine is better than one. The futuristic movie, what say!
There are many more. The good news is, some are actually funny. Let’s hope that Bollywood comes up with more innovative titles in the future.
