Bhubaneswar: A superintending engineer of Odisha’s Public Works Department was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly possessing assets worth Rs 5.12 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income.
On being intimated about the corrupt engineer, Binod Kumar Padhy, the vigilance team raided the engineer’s government quarters, a relative’s house in Berhampur, a farm house in Dimiria and a flat in Bhubaneswar on March 3.
According to reports, the engineer owned four double-storey buildings, one dairy farm, one under-construction house, 26 plots of land and one vehicle. In addition to this, cash of Rs 1 lakh, certificates of bank deposits, insurance policies, gold and silver ornaments and expensive household articles were also seized during the search.
Padhy will remain under detention till March 19. A case under Sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against him and his spouse, Vigilance sources said.
