Bhubaneswar: Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, private secretary to a member of Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), was arrested by the Vigilance on Saturday for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Vigilance SP, R Prakash had informed that assets worth over ₹3.79 crore, including 1.5 kg gold, were traced during searches at six places in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, including Sahoo’s residence at Niladri Vihar, the previous day.
THE ASSETS
>> A two double-storey building worth Rs 1.42 crore at Niladri Vihar
>> 14 plots in Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khurda,
>> Insurance deposits worth over Rs 56 lakh,
>> Rs 12 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 60 lakh
>> Another Rs 13 lakh cash was seized from his relative’s house.
The investigating agency also found bank slips indicating huge cash deposits in bank accounts along with recruitment-related applicant admit cards.
ABOUT SAHOO
The 58-year-old joined as a junior stenographer in the forest department in 1981. He was transferred to Odisha Staff Selection Commission in 1994 as a senior stenographer. In 2006, he became private secretary to the member of the Staff Selection Commission, Jagannath Lenka.
