Bhubaneswar: After Amrit Pradhan, the family of another COVID-infected youth from Odisha has appealed for help to airlift him to Kolkata for Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment.
Abhishek Mohapatra (28) was admitted to Kalinga Hospital, Bhubaneswar, on May 18 after being diagnosed with the infection and had been in ICU since May 20. “He has been on 100 per cent oxygen support for the last one week and suffering from pneumonia,” the post by his brother on milaap.org said.
The doctors have suggested ECMO support as the only course of action left with a near-certain lung transplant as the next step, the post added.
“We want him to survive, and this comes with a huge financial burden and stress. He is the only child of his parents and the sole bread earner,” it added while elaborating on the treatment cost.
Abhishek had got married about a month ago.
Following the appeal, support has started to pour in from all quarters and they have already collected 643,485 of the required Rs 1 crore through crowdfunding.
