Paradip: Hundreds of litre of crude oil, leaked from a pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), entered a river in Paradip of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday.
According to sources, the crude oil leaked from an underground pipeline of IOCL between Atharbanki and Nehru Bangala in the port town. As a result, the leaked oil entered the mangrove forest and nearby Kadia river besides the farmland in the area.
It is suspected that some miscreants ruptured the pipeline in order to steal the crude oil. A plastic container has been found from the spot.
However, the IOCL authorities have capped the oil leak but have not issued any statement on the matter.
It may be noted that a portion of the Paradip-Haldia pipeline of IOCL ruptured and the crude oil flowed into the nearby farmlands, sparking off panic among the locals two years back.
