Washington: A day after United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that Washington would “run” Venezuela, his administration reportedly hinted at taking action against other countries, including Greenland, Cuba and Colombia.
In an interview on Fox News, Trump said Cuba would be a country that he would end up talking about as he called it a ‘falling nation’. He made the remark when asked about how Cuba should be interpreting the Venezuelan operation.
“Cuba seems to be on the verge of collapse. I don’t know how they’re going to be able to stay afloat; they have no income. They received all their income from Venezuela, from Venezuelan oil,” he said, reported ANI.
In a telephonic interview with Fox News, he had said he would do something with Mexico over the dominance of drug cartels in the country. Trump reportedly said he had asked Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum if she wanted the US military’s help in uprooting the densely spread drug cartel operations.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, an ally of Maduro, had condemned the US attack on Venezuela, calling it aggression against all of South America.
According to the AFP, Trump had accused Petro of being a ‘drug-trafficker.’ He also reportedly said Colombia was “run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States.” When reporters asked Trump if a military intervention similar to Venezuela was on the cards for Colombia, he reportedly said that it sounded good to him.
On late Saturday, shortly after the US strikes on Venezuela, wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller — posted an image on X, triggering speculations.
The picture showed Greenland painted in the colours of the US flag. She had captioned the photograph as, “soon”.
