Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday transferred Puri SP and suspended 4 police personnel close on the heels of Orissa High Court and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking detailed report on custodial death in Puri.
Puri SP Akhileswar Singh has been transferred and attached to SP Headquarters. He is replaced by Sambalpur SP K Vishal Singh.
The government has also placed the IIC of Birmitrapur police station Smruti Prava Pradhan, Baselisahi police station’s SI Biplab Kumar Pradhan, constables Jagannath Swain and Babuli Behera under suspension for gross misconduct and negligence in duty, according to official sources.
While K Ramesh, an accused, died after he was arrested by Baselisahi police in Puri, Md Tariq Salim died while in police custody in Birmitrapur of Sundargarh district.
