Cuttack Municipal Corporation’s Health Wing Raids Lassi & Cold Drink Shops
Bhubaneswar: As temperature rises, hundreds of makeshift sherbat and lassi shops have mushroomed in the city. These shops sell the cold drinks at reasonably cheaper prices attracting large number of people. But, quality of water and the ingredients used in it remain a concern.
Following complaints of adulteration in fast food and drinks, a special health team of Cuttack Municipal Corporation raided makeshift shops here on Tuesday.
A team led CMC’s Food Inspector conducted surprise raids on several sarbat and lassi shops at several areas including, Dolamundai and Badambadi.
Food Safety Officer, Pratiksha Dasmohapatra said the team found some food items like ice and curd, stored in unhygienic condition. “Many agents are unaware of the use of chemicals, were found using chemicals meant for industrial purposes,” he added.
The health teams also inspected raw materials used by fast food shops and seized food items adulterated with non-permitted colours.
The drive was aimed at ensuring that traders sell genuine and healthy products, said the team members.
