Cuttack ODI: Floodlight Malfunction Halts Rohit Sharma’s Charge At Barabati Stadium

Cuttack: Skipper Rohit Sharma was finally on song, hitting three sumptuous sixes off England pacers as India launched their innings in pursuit of a 305-run victory target in the second ODI here on Sunday evening.

The captain and Shubman Gill had raced to 47 for no loss in six overs when a floodlight malfunction stopped play at Barabati Stadium.

The problem was with just one of the floodlight towers at the ground. The bulbs kept flickering initially, and some of those went off, hampering overall visibility.

The problem seemed to have been rectified after about five minutes, only for it to recur. Play resumed after a few minutes, but after one ball was bowled in the seventh over, most of the bulbs went off.

They looked set to resume again, but the light tower misbehaved again.

The umpires then took the players off the field as organisers tried to repair the floodlight tower.
