Cuttack SCBMCH’s ‘Crisis Manager’ Bhubanananda Maharana Passes Away

Cuttack: Emergency Officer of SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) Dr Bhubanananda Maharana passed away while undergoing treatment on Tuesday night. He was 69.

According to sources, the senior doctor underwent a surgery following a brain stroke and was being treated at the Neurosurgery Department of the hospital. “He was initially admitted to Ashwini Hospital. He was shifted to SCBMCH on January 20. He was operated upon and a clot in his brain was removed. But his health remained critical and it deteriorated further yesterday,” hospital superintendent Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra told the media.

He had also suffered a brain stroke due to high blood pressure in February last year.

Maharana, otherwise known as the ‘Crisis Manager’, was associated with SCBMCH for around 50 years, having completed both his MBBS and MD from here in 1973 and 1983 respectively, following which he started working as a casualty officer there.

A pall of gloom descended on the fraternity after the demise of Maharana, a resident of Baniya Sahi here.

“SCBMCHl was synonymous with Bhubanananda Maharana. He was the go-to man in any crisis situation at the hospital. He served at the blood bank, emergency service, trauma ICU. His demise is a personal loss for me having been together since school days,” said senior physician CBK Mohanty.
