Cuttack: Dahibara Aloodam in the city is not going to taste the same again. The doyen of this iconic dish, Ishwara Behera, is no more.
Fondly referred to as Ishwara Mausa, this famous Dahibara Aloodam vendor died after a heart attack in a private hospital in Cuttack on Sunday afternoon. He was 72.
He is survived by his wife, Shantilata Behera, two sons and a daughter.
Ishwara’s Dahibara stall at Biju Patnaik square near Tulasipur Revenue Colony has been a must visit for generations of foodies in Cuttack.
Ishwara had been selling Dahibara Aloodam for the past 56 years Cuttack. Initially, he used to cycle from Tulasipur to Chauliaganj to sell his unque delectables. Then he opened a stall at Killa Padia at Barabati stadium.
For the last several years, he was selling Dahibara from a vehicle at Biju Patnaik square near his residence.
“He was preparing Dahibara Aloodam and selling them before this lockdown also. Suddenly he fell ill and had an operation. However, he died after a heart attack on Sunday,” his nephew, Chandan Behera, said.
