Birmingham: It’s raining medals for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
After bagging 14 medals – including 4 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze on Saturday – Indian sportspersons maintained their move up the medals’ table on Sunday with even greater intensity on Sunday.
A pair of boxing gold medals – thanks to Nitu Ghanghas and Amit Panghal – was followed by an absolutely brilliant show in men’s triple jump where Indians came close to sweeping all three medals.
Eldhose Paul clinched gold with a jump of 17.03 metres, Abdulla Aboobacker earned silver with 17.02, while Pravin Chithravel finished fourth at 16.89 – just 3 cm short of bronze-medallist JN Perinchief of Bermuda.
It was India’s first-ever triple jump gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.
Earlier in the day, Sandeep Kumar fetched India a bronze medal in men’s 10,000 metres walk.
