Ganjam: Cyber police have busted an interstate network of online betting fraud that was operating from a rented accommodation at Gajapati Nagar in Ganjam district’s Rambha police station area.
Following a tip-off, a police team raided the premises on Friday evening. The accused persons present there were allegedly operating and promoting deceptive online betting applications and luring people to deposit money on the false promise of high returns.
Two accused were arrested at spot and two others managed to escape. One of the escapees was later traced through mobile number analysis and apprehended from Chamakhandi, Ganjam.
The accused were identified as Satrughan Kumar Pandey (26) of Ramgarh, Jharkhand, Dharamdas Manikpuri (30) of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh and Jagdish Sethi alias Suraj (30), who was residing at Chatrapur at present.
Police also seized three laptops, 14 mobile phones, 86 SIM cards, 78 ATM/debit cards, 16 passbooks, a motorcycle and documents during the raid.
Sources said initial digital examination has revealed identity and bank account details, betting platform references, credentials and deposit/withdrawal records. Further forensic and financial trail analysis is in progress to trace associates, escaped accused and the full network.
A case under the relevant sections of BNS has been registered at the cyber crime and economic offence police station in Chatrapur, they added.
