Berhampur: After duping common people, the cyber frauds have targeted a police officer in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per reports, the cyber frauds opened fake accounts of Sabyasachi Malla, IIC of Patpura police station in the district, in social media Facebook and Whatsapp. They also used a photograph of Malla wearing police uniform in the fake accounts.
The frauds posted a message stating that Malla’s friend working in CRPF has been transferred and he wanted to sell household articles in good condition at cheap rate. The pictures of various goods like refrigerator, sofa set, LED television, washing machine and dining set were also released with the message seeking buyers.
On getting the message, some people contacted Malla to verify its authenticity. But the IIC said it was a fake post and told them not to fall into the trap. He has also appealed to the people not to believe the fake post being circulated in his name and contact him in case of any suspicion.
It may be noted that at least 4 account holders of State Bank of India in Berhampur have been duped by cyber frauds to the tune of lakhs of rupees. Three days back, a doctor lost more than Rs 3 lakh after being trapped by the frauds.
A YONO app user of the SBI had lost more than Rs 3 lakh in July. Earlier, Binod Kumar Patra and Durga Prasad Desi Behera had been cheated by cyber frauds.
