Kolkata: All flight operations at Kolkata airport have been suspended till Thursday 5 am, in the wake of the cyclone Amphan. It is likely to make a landfall by noon today.
“All operations suspended at Kolkata airport till 5 am tomorrow in view of cyclone Amphan including special flights, which were operational in view of COVID-19,” the Airport Director was quoted as saying to ANI.
The cyclone is expected to make a landfall between West Bengal and Bangladesh coast this afternoon or evening.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that “cyclone Amphan will move north-northeast wards and cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coast between Digha and Hatiya, close to the Sundarbans during the afternoon and evening of Wednesday with a wind speed of 155 to 165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph as a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’.
West Bengal has evacuated more than three lakh people to safer places before the impact of the cyclonic storm could affect the areas of the state.
