Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday said not a single telecom tower has been damaged by the Cyclone Amphan.
Briefing mediapersons here, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said all telecom towers in 12 coastal districts vulnerable to the cyclone have remained intact and the telecom network in these districts is functioning normally.
Referring to other damages rendered by the cyclone Amphan, he said several trees in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts have been uprooted and the electric poles at some places damaged.
“Efforts are on to clear the roads blocked by felled trees and electricity poles within 12 hours and restore power connectivity in the affected districts at the earliest possible,” the SRC said.
On the return of the people from the cyclone shelters to their homes, Jena said while those in Jagatsinghpur and Paradip can come back by this evening, Balasore collector will decide after the intensity of the cyclone subsides.
Stating that 1,48,482 people were shifted to 2921 shelters, he said 1,885 pregnant women were admitted to the government medical hospitals by Tuesday evening.
