Berhampur: Around 6o fishermen managed to save their lives as their boats capsized in turbulent sea due to cyclone ‘Asani’ off Chhatrapur coast in Ganjam district.
The fishermen belonging to Sanaryapalli, Bada Aryapalli and Golabandha had gone in 6 mechanised boats for fishing in deep sea. After getting the alert about approaching cyclone, they started returning with a large haul of fish.
While they were on the way to Chhatrapur coast, their boats were rocked by huge waves and their boats capsized along with their fish at Aryapalli. However, all fishermen managed to swim across to the coast. Around 3 fishermen sustained minor injuries in the incident.
In another incident on Monday, 11 fishermen from Andhra Pradesh were airlifted from deep sea near Pati Sonapur as their boat got stranded due to rough waters. The Indian Coast Guard carried out the rescue operation following intervention of Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena.
