Bhubaneswar: Colleges and universities will remain closed in 14 districts of Odisha for three day from October 23 in view of the impending Cyclone ‘Dana’ brewing in Bay of Bengal.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting intensification of the depression over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal into a cyclonic storm by October 23, its likely movement towards Odisha coasts and landfall between Kendrapada and Bhadrak by October 24-25, the office of Special Relief Commissioner has directed the Higher Education Department to shut down colleges and universities in 14 districts of Odisha, which are “likely to be affected with wind action as well as heavy rainfall”, from October 23-25.
These districts are Ganjam. Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh and Cuttack.
This comes a day after Special Relief Commissioner DK Singh directed the School and Mass Education Department to close schools in these districts from October 23 to 25 as a precautionary measure.
