Bhubaneswar: The brute force of Cyclone Fani, which made a landfall in Puri on May 3, has caused extensive damage to the infrastructure of educational institutes in the city.
Officials have pegged the damage suffered on three campuses of KIIT, KIMS and KISS at around Rs 150 crore. Besides infrastructure, lakhs of trees that were planted over the years have also been uprooted. The KISS library has also been severely damaged.
Sources in SOA Deemed to be University have put the losses in Cyclone Fani at around Rs 30 crore. Costly equipment in the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, SOA’s faculty of medical sciences, has been damaged. SOA’s administrative building near Khandagiri was badly hit while the high mast light post at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) was uprooted. Laboratories inside the campus were also badly affected.
